Nouvelle-Aquitaine is one
of the most popular regions
in France with second-home
owners.
Primarily, it is a beautiful location,
with a diverse landscape including
rolling hills and vineyards,
spectacular river valleys and a
glorious coastline. There is a strong
rental demand for property here and
the region is popular with buyers
from the UK, Netherlands, Belgium,
Germany and further afield.
There are many major cultural
attractions, including UNESCO
World Heritage Sites - the village
of St Émilion, the Citadelle de Blaye,
Futuroscope, Marais Poitevin,
Lascaux 2, Cité du Vin and many
others.
It is also one of the most economically
developed regions in France, and
Bordeaux is home to many start-ups
and tech companies, as well as being
consistently cited as one of the most
attractive cities to live in. Start up
costs are around 30% lower than in
Paris. The Nouvelle-Aquitaine has
11 airports, 4 ports and an excellent
high speed rail service.As well
as private investment, NouvelleAquitaine is seeing huge public
investment:
The Next Generation EU plan is an
economic recovery package, granted
by the European Commission, in
response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Nouvelle-Aquitaine has been
awarded 340m euros, to help fishing,
agriculture, tourism, ecology, and
the tech sector. The Next Generation
plan aims to make Europe "green,
digital and resilient", and supports
job creation and the provision of
working capital and investment
support for SME's.
There is support from the French
Government too. The France 2030
plan aims to boost growth and
competitiveness. It includes tax
reforms, investment in innovation
and technology, with a focus on
sustainability and a push to digitise
the French economy. 213m euros
has been set aside for 92 projects
in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Launched by
PM Elisabeth Borne in Nov 2022,
examples given included support
for companies such as Febus Optics
in Pau (bring a new generation of
fibre optics to the world), and CMP
Composites in Eysines (aeronautic
engineers producing composites for
the space industry).
Finally, there is help on the ground
from DSIL (Dotations d'investissement
aux collectivités territoriales). DSIL
provides funding to communities to
help them address local challenges.
In Nouvelle-Aquitaine, 190m euros
has been granted to local communes.
Examples include helping first time
buyers with grants of up to 8,000
euros, offering 0% loans, and helping
with energy efficiency housing
grants.
